Halloween is the only chance to let monsters out and ask them to dance.
With store bought outfits And makeup set.
Ready for a night full of fright and regret.
Why so excited to dress up and scare?
To soothe inner demons, from the mirror they stare.
I think I have had an epiphany regarding Halloween.
It's not about dressing up like a fictional character to scare or trick people anymore.
Different people's reasons may vary...
1. Some will spend many hours or a lot of money on the perfect costume as they are Rage-goers or cosplay-enthusiasts, which is fine. You impress me and depress me.. I do not even have dedication when I dress myself in the morning. #lazygirlproblems
2Some will be punny.. Like a couple going as bacon and eggs... Or a candy and a rapper -candy wrapper (ba-dum-tsss) Or a cat and a woman. - catwoman. The list goes on. The puns vary in punniness. When you get to the ceiling fan idea - someone carrying a banner or flag that literally just says "go ceiling" - feel free to insert face palm here.. But we need you punny ones...
3. Some will literally be any normal thing and wear the minimum. Because, every ho needs a home? For instance, a red cross on the hat. White croptop and a mini, boom you're a nurse. Or, little black dress with a crucifix, nun.. Most animal outfits go in that direction too. There are however some people who just decide to BECOME the animal. Buy a panda onesie, eat bamboo, follow pandas around to learn their mannerisms.. Or pandarisms.. And party as a panda. I have unfortunately not experienced a panda party myself, but I imagine it would be amazing.
4. Some will just go to drink, because screw dressing up I guess. They would be the awkward ones looking around for other awkward hallowont's, occasionally raising their eyebrows at the number 1s for taking things too far. For example a couple dressed up in leather as a dominatrix and her submissive. On a leash, with a muzzle, forced to beg for alcohol... I am convinced the man was possibly in a hostage situation... To each his own I guess.
When you think about it. We present the world with many faces each day... Halloween just gives an official name to the occasion where people can go all out.
Monsters cannot hide their intentions. Their being basically says "I am going to chase you and kill you mkay but run so we can make this movie". That makes them less scary because at least we know what's up. But people? They are a different story.
People have the ability to morph into the version they want the world to see.
It's like hell has a waiting list and heaven is empty.
Those nurses at the old age home smiling at their patients? They kill them for fun.
That man who used to drive the kids in his street around? He's a registered sex offender.
That grieving widow? She just poisoned her third husband.
The quiet kid who got straight A's? He hung himself in his garage.
The bully you remember from school? His stepfather molested him and his mother didn't believe him.
That Paralympic athlete who seemed to have his life together? He shot his girlfriend.
Putting up a front is fine, but people seem to forget the makeup fades. Eventually people will see the truth. Somehow I think being real would just be easier.
Less friends? Definitely
Less drama? Obviously
When you feel something about someone. Get it out there by saying it to that person first. Don't wait for the grapevine to screw you over. Bite the bullet and be the bitch. I am going to attempt to practise what I preach... Although avoiding it would be much easier.
There are monsters scarier than anything from a movie scene.
They're right next to you, behind you,
They're you and me.
